I partnered with a co-student in completion of a senior design thesis involving The Mountain Institute headquartered in West Virginia. We participated with the staff and directors of The Mountain Institute in the design of a model for sustainable design that emulated the institute's educational, research, and recreational initiatives.
This was a very rewarding project!
I worked for Universal Studios during the construction of the theme park 'Islands of Adventure. During my employment with US, I worked on various gardens that shared one common trait - "show quality" I also held the position of Project Design Coordinator for Universal Studios Islands of Adventure Theme Park and Universal Studios CityWalk. I quickly gained experience unavailable to most in the industry; there where several thousand conttractors working on the project simultaneously. I gained invaluable horticultural experience, especially in the transplantation and installation of large trees.....some weighing up to 14,000 lbs
This project involved the relamation of a mining site in Telluride Colorado. I oversaw a crew that installed over 400 Spruce trees ranging in size from 8' to 25'. Large heavy root balls on steep slopes...oh boy! We revegetated acres of reclaimed mine area......seeded by hand. This was a challenging project due to weather and logistics. We also planted a couple hundred Quaking Aspen.
I participated in the design and installation of the Western Colorado Heritage Garden in Grand Junction, Colorado. This was a great project in the preservation of local culture and history through planting and interpretive means. The botanical gardens are wonderful, and I am happy to have participated.
